I was thinking about who to be for Halloween this year and I came across some interesting options. With 24 days until the presidential election, political figures are increasingly popular at costume stores. I could make my own Sarah Palin costume for under $100, or I could make my boyfriend get a Barack Obama mask and we could be Michelle and Barack Obama. We could even go the Republican route and be John and Cindy McCain. However, we might have to be more creative in order to be Joe and Jill Biden because when I tried to look for a mask on Amazon.com, they didn’t have any. I don’t know who I will end up dressing up as, but I do know that everyone is excited about the 2008 presidential election.
Businesses are capitalizing on the candidates, making everything from masks to pint glasses. Mark Modeer owns Zeezo’s, a costume shop in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He says in the past, the most popular candidate mask has been the one that ends up winning the election. A few days ago they were tied 5-5, but I called the store today and Obama has taken the lead. Hurry up if you want to buy a Barack Obama mask, there’s only 4 left. You still have some time if you want to be John McCain, they have 7 masks left.
Down South in Columbia, South Carolina, voters can get their favorite candidate on a pint glass. The Flying Saucer predicted who would win the 2004 presidential election. They sold 632 George W. Bush pint glasses and only 429 John Kerry ones. So if they Flying Saucer is correct again, we could be seeing the Obama’s in the White House. As of last night Barack Obama was beating John McCain 642-524.
Over in the battle ground state of Ohio, Andy Haas at Haas bakery is selling Obama and McCain cookies to get into the election spirit. As of Thursday, the red frosted McCain cookies were outselling the blue frosted Obama cookies 192-183. Barack Obama has decided to prepare for the final debate next week in Toledo, Ohio. Maybe he can buy a couple dozen or so cookies to put him in the lead.
But enough about costumes, pint glasses, and cookies, get out and vote!
Haha my sister works at the flying saucer—they have hundreds of different types of beers FYI
